Associations and Nonprofit Organizations

The NCBPA is a proud partner and member of associations working in and with North Carolina's building performance industry.  These associations provide benefits to our members, residents and businesses in areas including sustainability, home construction, renewable energy and more.

Nonprofit organizations are valuable members of the building performance industry in our state.  They promote market growth, manage programs that bring building performance to low income housing and much more.

The Roanoke Center offers one-stop assistance to individuals and small businesses by providing a variety of information and guidance. The Center is totally grassroots based and it effectively serves to maximize the benefits of projects and activities that make the region a better place to live and work.  Once of The Center's programs is called Upgrade to $ave, a new program that finances cost effective energy efficiency improvements for Roanoke Electric Cooperative members while helping to promote local qualified contractors to gain work.

Through Upgrade to $ave, Roanoke Electric Cooperative will make investments in energy efficiency that allow our members to save money on their bills without making any upfront payments or incurring new debt obligation.  In turn, participating members will agree to pay a voluntary tariff on their bill that shares the energy efficiency savings with the cooperative at a level that assures immediate savings for our participants and full cost recovery for our cooperative.

Because Roanoke Electric Cooperative is committed to helping members access affordable energy services, we are proud to be among the first utilities to receive a loan from the Rural Utilities Service through the new Energy Efficiency & Conservation Loan Program.  With $6 million in federal financing, we are now able to launch Upgrade to $ave to open the doors of opportunity for our members.

As a High Performing Housing Authority that assists over 6,000 Asheville residents, the Housing Authority of the City of Asheville (HACA) owns and operates 1,500 units of conventional public housing in 10 developments throughout Asheville. HACA also manages the Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) that provides rental vouchers for more than 1,350 units of housing in the private market.

NC Sustainable Energy Association

Founded in 1978, the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit membership organization of individuals, businesses, government and non-profits interested in North Carolina's sustainable energy future. Located in Raleigh, but active statewide, the North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association is the leading nonprofit in North Carolina devoted to leading public policy change and driving market development in ways that will create clean energy jobs.

The North Carolina Sustainable Energy Association knows that it takes much more than one program, policy or group to achieve a sustainable energy future and economy for North Carolina. That is why we work with the NC Sustainable Energy Association's members, government officials, business leaders, communities, partner organizations and the public. We believe the key to success is through removing policy barriers to market development, advocating for policies that will lead to a clean energy future, and educating North Carolinians about renewable energy and energy efficiency.

Western North Carolina Green Building Council

The WNCGBC has a long track record, as a non-profit organization, of success in educating and transforming the building industry throughout the western region of North Carolina. The WNCGBC began as a casual gathering of five building professionals over food and drink in the spring of 2000. A common desire to educate others on the health and environmental impacts of design and construction led to the official formation of the council.

Founded in 2001 by a small group of volunteers, WNCGBC added its first full time staff member in 2004 and its second in 2006.  Throughout the twelve years of its existence, WNCGBC has directly educated over 6,000 building industry professionals and homeowners by providing building science and weatherization trainings. WNCGBC has offered free classes, public forums and technical trainings.  We have worked with local governments and utilities to provide training and incentives for green building and energy efficiency.  In 2009, WNCGBC administered a Community Development Block Grant which weatherized 60 homes for low-income families.
